Horses' physiological (including immunity) and psychological health depend on the healthy gut environment. Gut Gold can be fed to any horse or pony who experience a compromise to their gut microflora to help support a health gastrointestinal tract and aid in their digestion. It is ideal for older horses, poor doers, and horses and ponies that tend to lose condition at any time of the year.

Why feed Probiotics?
The domestication of horses has led to changes in feeding which the horse's body is not designed to deal with. Horses are designed to live on roughage diets high in fibre and trickle feed throughout the day, but domestication has led to feeding bulk feeds of cereals which are high in starch and simple sugars.

Starches and sugars are usually digested in the small intestine, but this can only cope with small quantities at a time. Any undigested starch passes into the hindgut where it rapidly ferments, leading to a build-up of acidity which affects the hindgut environment. The hindgut contains friendly bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and protozoa which assist in the fermentation process and help get rid of any pathogenic microflora. The population of microflora in the gut is constantly changing, and levels are affected by factors such as increased acidity levels due to high levels of starch from cereal diets which is detrimental to "friendly bacteria".

Millions of friendly bacteria die naturally and are lost from your horse's digestive tract daily. Replenishing the healthy balance of "friendly bacteria" is vital to normal digestion and immune function, helping your horse to maintain weight, condition, overall health, and vitality. Live yeast is scientifically proven to help maintain this healthy balance of "friendly bacteria".

There are many probiotics on the market, but if you check out their ingredients there are very few which contain live yeast, which is the ingredient that help maintains gut flora. Saccharomyces Cerevisiae can help to increase nutrient digestibility by helping to enhance the activity of fibre digesting bacteria in the hindgut. This means that your horse can benefit from more efficient use of vitamins and minerals from their diet.

Millions of friendly bacteria are lost from your horse's digestive tract every day. 70% of your horse's immune system depends on a healthy intestine. Stress, age, diet, travel, antibiotics, and worming can impact on your horse's natural defences, which is why feeding Gut Gold can be beneficial to improve your horse's immunity.

Why feed Prebiotics?

Mannanoligosaccharies (MOS) are a natural polysaccharide that block pathogenic bacteria in the gut from multiplying, which improves your horse's overall health and immunity.

Beta-glucans are also a natural polysaccharide, which are known for modulating the immune response in the horse.
