Equest Pramox contains Moxidectin and a tapeworm treatment Equest Pramox is a combination of two drugs in one horse wormer treats roundworm, tapeworm, bots, and encysted redworm larvae stages in horses.

Adult horses over 3yrs old should be treated for Encysted Small Redworm and Bots in late Autumn/early winter and tested or treated for tapeworm at the same time. Throughout the grazing season the need for wormer administration should be based on faecal worm egg counts taken every 2-3 months. This is dependent on good pasture management and regular removal of droppings – reducing the interval between tests may be necessary if pastures are not regularly cleared and rotated.

EQUEST PRAMOX contains the same unique active ingredient of EQUEST, and the drug of choice for the control of tapeworm.

EQUEST PRAMOX is the only combination wormer licensed to control small redworms, including the inhibited and developing encysted small redworm larval stages, as well as other roundworm species, bots and all three species of tapeworm.

EQUEST PRAMOX has the longest dosing interval of any combination wormer: 13-weeks. The active ingredient prevents the reappearance of roundworm eggs in the horse’s dung for at least 90 days, which is longer than any other active (Jacobs D et al, 1995), (Parr S et al) this gives EQUEST PRAMOX its 13-week dosing interval. Moxidectin can be used in horses which are ‘high shedders’ as it has the longest egg suppression period of any of the wormer ingredients. This means it can be used to reduce pasture contamination using the least number of doses.

EQUEST PRAMOX is easy to administer in a palatable gel formula. EQUEST PRAMOX melts in your horse’s mouth to reduce the risk of being spat out. Presented in easy to use dial-a-dose syringes with 25kg graduations; this allows accurate dosing according to your horse’s weight.

EQUEST PRAMOX has no confirmed resistance in horses in the UK or Ireland. EQUEST PRAMOX is licensed to control the increasingly prevalent whte wormer resistant strains of small redworm, making it a suitable treatment for new horses arriving at a yard.

EQUEST PRAMOX is safe to use in horses and ponies, including stallions and mares, and is licensed for use in foals from 6 ½ months. Pramox now fully licensed for breeding, pregnant and lactating mares.

Advice on the use of this or alternative medicines must be sought from the medicine prescriber.

Treatment for tapeworm is recommended every 6 months, in the spring and autumn(Proudman C, 1994).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Equest Pramox safe?

Equest Pramox Oral Gel has been shown to be safe for use in breeding, pregnant and lactating mares. Administration does not adversely affect the fertility of mares.

In order to limit the impact of moxidectin on dung fauna, and due to insufficient data regarding environmental risk of praziquantel, horses should not be turned out onto pasture within 3 days of treatment.

In case of very high worm burdens, destruction of the parasites may cause a mild transient colic and loose faeces in the treated horse.

Doest Equest Pramox treat bots?

Yes Equest Pramox treats bots

For optimum control of bots, Equest Pramox should be administered in the autumn, after the end of the fly season and before spring as the larvae may start to pupate and therefore are less sensitive to treatment.

When should I use Equest Pramox?

This is usually used in the Spring and Autumn for Tapeworm

Is this safe for donkeys

No this is not licensed for the use on donkeys. You can use Eqvalan or a double dose of Strongid P

I have just wormed my horse as he had been on the forest , so many bott lava come out of his bottom still coming out a week later How soon could I repeat ? Sarah x

The active ingredient in the wormer keeps working for two weeks. There should be no need to worm again for 13 weeks.

Does Equest Pramox treat Tapeworm like Equitape?

Is Equest Pramox safe for pregnant mares?

Each syringe of Equest Pramox will treat up to 700kg bodyweight

What time of year should I use Equest Pramox for encysted small redworm?

Equest Pramox treats all worms including tapeworm which is usually given in spring and autumn. This is usually used alongside Equest which is given in the Summer and winter.

What is the difference between Equest and Equest Pramox?

Equest will treat all roundworms, Equest Pramox has an added ingredient to treat tapeworm too.

No, this is a different drug group. Moxidectin will treat Encysted Small redworm whereas Ivermectin will not.

Is Equest Pramox ok to use on a 2 year old mini Shetland?

Yes, please ensure you dose for the correct body weight.

Can it be used on mules? Mimine is 6 mths old

No this is only licensed for the use on horses. We would advise the Eqvalan or a double dose of Strongid P (for tapeworm) Panacur Equine Guard can be used over the winter for the encysted small redworm.

Is this ok for miniature horse not mini Shetland?

Yes when dosed according to bodyweight.

Does equest pramox kill pinworms

Yes this will kill pinworm, although if there is an infestation it can be difficult to eradicate them so using a shorter acting wormer more frequently is advised. We recommend using the Strongid P 4 or 5 times with 4 week intervals.

Is it correct that horses has to be kept in 3 days after using Pramox?

In order to limit the impact of moxidectin on dung fauna, and due to insufficient data regarding environmental risk of praziquantel, horses should not be turned out onto pasture within 3 days of treatment.
