Equimax Wormer for Tapeworm and Redworm in Horses

Equimax is an all-in-one, combination wormer containing two different active ingredients Equimax is capable of treating multiple-specie infestations. Equimax wormer is for the treatment of infestation due to adult and immature roundworm, lungworm, bots and tapeworm.

When to Use

Equimax can be used Spring and Autumn as a single dose for tapeworm.
Previous advice was Equimax wormer Lasts 8-10 weeks against redworm, but worm egg testing is now recommended with strategic worming control, and Equimax wormer is recommended every 6 months for tapeworm and more frequently for redworm dependent on if required by test results or veterinary recommendation.

Key Information

  • Contains Ivermectin and Praziquantel.

  • For the treatment of infestation due to adult and immature roundworm, lungworm, Bots and tapeworm.
  • Use Spring and Autumn as a single dose for tapeworm. Equimax may be given every 6 months as a tapeworm treatment.
  • One syringe will treat 700kg bodyweight.
  • Can be given to pregnant mares and lactating mares.
  • Do not use on sick or neglected horses Suitable for use in foals from two weeks of age.
  • STORAGE Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Store below 30 C.
  • Part-used syringes should be stored below 25 C.
  • Following withdrawal of the first dose, use the product within 6 months.

Dosing Rate

One syringe will treat 700kg bodyweight
The initial syringe graduation provides enough paste to treat 100kg of bodyweight. Each following syringe graduation delivers enough paste to treat 50kg of bodyweight. The correct dosage should be obtained as accurately as possible to reduce incidence of wormer resistance.

How To Use

Ensure the animal's mouth is clear of any food. Position the syringe between the front and back teeth, and gently dispense the paste at the base of the tongue. Lift the animal's head slightly for a brief moment to ensure proper swallowing of the product.

Usage

Equimax is for use in all horses that have mixed infestations of roundworms, tapeworms and bots, and is the only product registered to treat all 3 species of equine tapeworm (more information : see Package Insert).

The formula of Equimax horse wormer is unique to Virbac and is protected by international patents in Australia, USA, Europe and, in other countries.

Safety

Safety Studies have proven Equimax Wormer is safe to use on all types of horses. Equimax has been proven safe in stallions at 5x the recommended dose rate and, in pregnant mares at 3x the recommended dose. It is equally safe on foals at more than 5x the normal level and can be safely administered to foals from 2 weeks of age.

Horses with a significant Onchocerca microfilariae infection may exhibit reactions like swelling and itching post-treatment. These reactions are believed to stem from the elimination of a substantial number of microfilariae.

In cases of exceptionally high infestation levels, the parasite's destruction might lead to mild, temporary symptoms such as colic and loose feces in the treated horse. In exceedingly rare instances, post-treatment, especially when dealing with a heavy worm burden, colic, diarrhea, and reduced appetite have been documented.

Extremely rarely, allergic reactions, including hypersalivation, lingual edema, urticaria, tachycardia, congested mucous membranes, and subcutaneous edema, have been reported following product administration. If these signs persist, it is imperative to consult a veterinarian for guidance and further evaluation.

It is crucial to prevent dogs and cats from consuming spilled paste or gaining access to used syringes to avoid the risk of adverse effects associated with ivermectin toxicity.
