Description

Purevax RC lyophilisate and solvent for suspension for injection.

Presentation

Lyophilisate and solvent for suspension for injection.

Active substance(s)

Per 1 ml dose:

Freeze-dried pellet:

Attenuated feline rhinotracheitis herpesvirus (FHV F2 strain) = 104.9 CCID50

Inactivated feline calicivirosis antigens (FCV 431 and G1 strains) = 2.0 ELISA U.

Excipient:

Gentamicin, at most 16.5 µg

Solvent:

Water for injections q.s. 1 ml

Uses

Active immunisation of cats aged 8 weeks and older against feline viral rhinotracheitis to reduce clinical signs and against calicivirus infection to reduce clinical signs and viral excretion. Onsets of immunity have been demonstrated 1 week after primary vaccination course for rhinotracheitis and calicivirus components.

The duration of immunity is 1 year after the last (re)vaccination.

Dosage and administration

1 ml subcutaneous injection after reconstitution of the freeze-dried pellet with the solvent, according to the following schedule:

Primary vaccination:

First injection: from 8 weeks of age,

Second injection: 3 to 4 weeks later.

Revaccination: Annual.

Where high levels of maternal antibodies against R or C components are expected to be present (e.g. in kittens of 9 - 12 weeks of age born from queens which were vaccinated before pregnancy and/or with known or suspected previous exposure to the pathogen(s)), the primary vaccination course should be delayed until 12 weeks of age.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

For animal treatment only. Do not use in pregnant animals. Use is not recommended during lactation.

Undesirable effects

Under normal conditions of use, transient apathy and anorexia may occasionally occur, as well as hyperthermia (lasting usually for 1 or 2 days). A local reaction may occur (slight pain at palpation, itching or limited oedema) that disappears within 1 or 2 weeks at most.

In exceptional circumstances a hypersensitivity reaction may occur, which may require appropriate symptomatic treatment.

Special precautions for use

Vaccinate only healthy animals.

Interaction with other veterinary medicinal products and other forms of interaction

Safety and efficacy data are available which demonstrate that this vaccine can be mixed with Merial PUREVAX non-adjuvanted vaccine against feline leukaemia and/or administered the same day but not mixed with Merial adjuvanted vaccine against rabies (RABISIN). Do not mix with any other vaccine or immunological product.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals

In case of accidental self-injection, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to the physician.

Adverse reactions

In very rare cases, transient and slight apathy may occur, as well as mild anorexia or hyperthermia (above 39.5 °C), usually lasting 1 or 2 days. Most of these reactions were noted during the 2 days following the vaccine injection.

A transient local reaction may very rarely occur (pain at palpation, limited swelling that may become nodular, heat at the injection site, and in some cases erythema), that usually disappears within 1 or 2 weeks at most. Very rarely, a hypersensitivity reaction may occur, which may require appropriate symptomatic treatment.

The frequency of adverse reactions is defined using the following convention:

- very common (more than 1 in 10 animals displaying adverse reactions during the course of one treatment)

- common (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 100 animals)

- uncommon (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 1,000 animals)

- rare (more than 1 but less than 10 animals in 10,000 animals)

- very rare (less than 1 animal in 10,000 animals, including isolated reports).

The safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established during pregnancy and lactation.

Interactions

Efficacy data are available which demonstrate that this vaccine can be administered at least 14 days before or after the administration of MERIAL non-adjuvanted vaccine against feline leukaemia.

Safety and efficacy data are available which demonstrate that this vaccine can be mixed and administered with MERIAL non-adjuvanted vaccines containing various combinations of feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirosis, panleukopenia and chlamydiosis components.

Amounts to be administered and administration route

Subcutaneous use. Administer one dose of 1 ml according to the following vaccination scheme:

Primary vaccination: 1 injection from 12 weeks of age.

Revaccination: 1 year after primary vaccination, then at intervals of up to 3 years.

Travel to countries requiring a rabies serology test: experience has shown that some vaccinated animals, while protected, may not show the 0.5 IU/ml antibody titre required by some countries. Veterinary surgeons may wish to consider two vaccinations. The best time for a blood sample to be taken is around 28 days after vaccination.

Overdose

No adverse reactions other than those already mentioned under Adverse reactions have been observed after the administration of 10 doses. The reactions may last longer.
