Probiotics Pro-Kolin Advanced contains the EU-registered probiotic bacterium, Enterococcus faecium  (NCIMB 10415) 4b1707. The Enterococcus faecium in Pro-Kolin Advanced has been  shown to survive through the digestive tract for maximum efficacy

Prebiotics Preplex® prebiotic is a combination of two different types of prebiotics – fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS) and acacia (gum arabic) – that is unique to  Protexin Veterinary. This combination ensures that Pro-Kolin Advanced supports the growth of beneficial bacteria in different stages of the digestive tract:
Proximal colon – FOS is able to enter the colon intact because it is not digested by enzymes in the small intestine. In the colon, certain beneficial bacteria (Bifidobacterium spp. and Lactobacillus spp.) ferment FOS readily, which leads to an increase in their numbers.  Since FOS has a low molecular weight it is utilised in the  proximal colon. Distal colon – Acacia gum has a highly branched and complex structure so it is fermented more slowly in the distal colon

Pectin Pectin is a soluble fibre that is rapidly fermented in the colon.  As well as being an effective prebiotic, pectin is also known to  have a soothing effect on the gut lining.

Psyllium Psyllium is a soluble dietary fibre that has the ability to absorb excess water in the gastrointestinal tract to form a viscous, gel-like substance. It acts to increase faecal viscosity which promotes the slowing down and normalisation of intestinal transit time.

Binders Pro-Kolin Advanced contains  pharmaceutical grade clay to act  as a binder to support normal digestive function. Different forms of clays have different properties which affect their absorption and adsorption capabilities: Absorption – excess liquid within  the gastrointestinal tract moves  into the clay molecule. Adsorption – the ability to bind compounds such as bacteria, viruses  and enterotoxins to the outer surface  of a clay molecule.
Using a combination of kaolin and montmorillonite ensures the optimal balance between absorption and adsorption, and provides dual benefit to the animal.

Beta-glucans Beta-glucans, specifically those with 1,3/1,6 linkage in their chemical structure, have  been shown to support the innate immune system. Immune cells, such as macrophages,  have dectin-1 receptors that recognise and respond to beta-1,3/1,6-glucans resulting in  increased antimicrobial activity, enhanced cellular defence and improved disease resistance
