Joint Supplements for Dogs and Horses

Joint Supplements for Dogs and Horses

Posted by Darren Walton on 11th Feb 2016

Supplements are widely used when dogs or horses develop stiffness in their joints and a good supplement will help maintain healthy joints and freedom of movement. It may also delay the need for “prescription” medications or allow the dose of these to be reduced.

The ingredients.

Most of these supplements contain Glucosamine together with other ingredients such as Collagen,

Chondroitin, MSM, Devil’s Claw or Green–lipped Mussel

The choice?

It can be difficult to make a choice from the large number of products available and price is not

a reliable guide to quality as some of the most expensive brands actually contain very little

effective ingredient.

“Glucomax Professional” for dogs and “Glucomax Equine Advanced” for horses however

contain a massive 5000mg of pure Glucosamine in every 30g together with high levels of Collagen, MSM and Vitamin C but are very economical in use.

How do they work ?

Glucosamine is produced naturally by the body from glucose and glutamine and believed to help repair cartilage as it is a source of the glycosaminoglycan building blocks. Glucosamine also acts by thickening the synovial fluid in joints

The importance of using Collagen with Glucosamine.

Collagen provides EIGHT essential amino-acids plus oligopeptides which are key compounds in supporting tendons, muscles and cartilage and our unique blend with high-potency Glucosamine helps initiate and maintain the repair process.

MSM

Research has shown that arthritic joints may be deficient in Sulphur and MSM is an organic form that is readily absorbed acting as a natural anti-inflammatory to help maintain healthy joints and tendons.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Is reputed to assist absorption of the other ingredients.

Usage?

Glucomax is fed at twice the normal rate for the first three weeks and then at the normal level to maintain the improvement.

Are there any side-effects?

None are known as Glucosamine and Collagen are normal constituents of the body.
