Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is used to treat cold sores. Cold sore, known medically as herpes labialis are very common and are easily recognised because they often appear as blisters around the lips and mouth.They pop up in response to a viral infection.They are often uncomfortable and can make some people feel very self-conscious.The earlier you treat a cold sore, the better.The best time to start treatment is when that tingling sensation first happens, before any visible sign of cold sore appears. If you miss it, don’t worry, it’s not too late to treat!Stages of the virusAfter the itchy, tingly stage, the site of the cold sore gradually develops into a blister or a small group of blisters, surrounded by red and swollen skin.After a day or so these burst to produce the typical open sore.Like a sore anywhere on your body, these sores gradually dry up and form a crusty scab, which is usually a yellow-brown colour.The sore gradually heals. The scab falls off over a few days and should completely disappear after around 10 days, or faster with the use of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream. The area may be a bit swollen for few days Zovirax Coldsore Cream Pump contains enough cream for 3 or 4 cold sore attacks. Keep the cream with you at all times so you can treat your next cold sore as soon as you feel the tingle.Wash your hands before and after treating your cold sore so you don't make it worse or infect someone else. Squeeze or pump a small amount of cream onto your finger. Apply to the affected area 5 times a day, (about every 4 hours). If you forget a treatment, apply some as soon as you remember and continue as before. Continue treatment for 5 days. If full healing has still not occurred after 10 days, or if your cold sore becomes very severe, consult your pharmacist. Do not exceed the stated dose

100mg Aciclovir equivalent to 5% w/w Cream Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is indicated in adults and children for the treatment of Herpes simplex virus infections of the lips and face (recurrent herpes labialis). Immunocompromised Patients Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is not recommended for use in immunocompromised patients. Such patients must be advised to consult a physician concerning the treatment of any infection.

Route of administration – Topical Adults and children Zovirax Cold Sore Cream should be applied five times daily at approximately four hourly intervals, omitting the night time application. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream should be applied to the lesions or impending lesions as soon as possible, preferably during the earliest stages (prodrome or erythema). Treatment can also be started during the later (papule or blister) stages. Treatment should be continued for at least 4 days. If healing has not occurred, treatment may be continued for up to 10 days. If lesions are still present after 10 days, users should be advised to consult a doctor. Users should wash their hands before and after applying the cream, and avoid unnecessary rubbing of the lesions or touching them with a towel, to avoid aggravating or transferring the infection. Use in the Elderly No special comment.

Zovirax Cold Sore cream should only be used on cold sores on the lips and face. It is not recommended for application to mucous membranes, such as in the mouth or eye and must not be used to treat genital herpes. Particular care should be taken to avoid contact with eye. People with particularly severe recurrent herpes labialis should be encouraged to seek medical advice. Cold sore sufferers should be advised to avoid transmitting the virus, particularly when active lesions are present. Zovirax cold sore cream is not recommended or use by people who know that they are immunocompromised. Such individuals should be encouraged to consult a physician concerning the treatment of any infection. Ocular herpes Zovirax Cold Sore Cream must not be used for treatment of ocular herpes infections. Genital herpes Zovirax Cold Sore Cream must not be used for treatment of genital herpes.
