Telmin Horse Wormer Paste |
|
Contains mebendazole, one of the benzimidazole wormers suitable for horses and donkeys and active against benzimidazole sensitive large and small redworms, ascarids, seatworms and lungworms. Will not kill tapeworms or bots. Lungworm Infections in donkeys need a higher dose over 5 days.
Normal dosing interval every six weeks.
If cover against tapeworm is needed praziquantel (Equitape), Equimax or a double dose of Pyrantel (Pyratape P or Strongid P) (ie two tubes of paste or 4 sachets for an average horse) at the
beginning and end of the grazing season. Bots treatment as usual after a hard frost requires ivermectin or moxidectin
One tube will treat a 800 kg horse
Presentation
A white paste containing a total of 4 g mebendazole per syringe.
Uses
An oral broad spectrum anthelmintic for the treatment of helminthiasis in the horse and donkey. Telmin is effective against benzimidazole-susceptible strains of the following worms:
Large strongyles: Strongylus vulgaris
Strongylus edentatus
Strongylus equinus
Small strongyles: Cyathostomes
Triodontophorus spp.
Trichostrongylus axei
Ascarids: Parascaris equorum
Pinworms: Oxyuris equi
Probstmayria vivipara
Lungworm: Dictyocaulus arnfieldi
Dosage and administration
Horses
The dose rate is 510 mg mebendazole per kg bodyweight orally. Repeat this dose every six weeks.
Foals and horses 100200 kg Ό syringe
Horses 200400 kg ½ syringe
Horses 400800 kg 1 syringe
Donkeys
For the treatment of Dictyocaulus arnfieldi give orally at the rate of 1520 mg/kg bodyweight daily for 5 consecutive days.
Administer by squeezing the paste from the syringe onto the back of the tongue. Previous fasting is not required. Care must be taken to ensure that there is nothing in the mouth which may mix with the paste (ie hay or other feed).
Contra-indications, warnings, etc
Animals for human consumption must not be slaughtered until 6 months after treatment with Telmin Paste.
When used in donkeys at the higher dose rate of 1520 mg/kg daily, the product should not be administered within the first 4 months after service.
Do not use the same syringe to treat more than one animal unless the horses are running together or are in direct contact with each other on the same premises.

Keep out of the reach of children.
Assess bodyweight as accurately as possible before calculating the dosage.
Intensive use or misuse of anthelmintics can give rise to resistance. To reduce this risk, dosing programmes should be discussed with your veterinary surgeon.
Operator warning
Wash hands after use. Persons with known hypersensitivity to ingredients in the product should not handle the product.
Disposal
Any unused product or waste material should be disposed of in accordance with national requirements.

Do not store above 25°C. Replace cap after use
