Dosage and administration
MILBEMAX* tablets are administered at a minimum recommended dose rate of 2 mg milbemycin oxime and 5 mg praziquantel per kg body weight, given once orally.
MILBEMAX is given by oral administration with or after some food. Doing so ensures optimum protection against heartworm disease.
MILBEMAX can be inserted into a programme for prevention of heartworm disease if at the same time treatment against tapeworms is indicated. MILBEMAX has a duration of heartworm prevention of one month. For regular prevention of heartworm disease the use of a monosubstance is preferred.

Further information
Milbemycin oxime belongs to the group of macrocyclic lactones and is active against mites, against larval and adult stages of nematodes as well as against larvae of Dirofilaria immitis. After oral administration of milbemycin oxime in the cat, milbemycin oxime reaches peak plasma concentrations within 2 hours. The half life is approximately 13 hours (+/- 9 hours). During the treatment with MILBEMAX, no other antiparasitic macrocyclic lactone should be administered.
Praziquantel is an acylated pyrazino-isoquinoline derivative active against cestodes and trematodes. In the cat, praziquantel reached peak plasma concentration within an hour after oral administration. The half- life is approximately 3 hours.
MILBEMAX is effective against Dirofilaria imitis, which is endemic in the USA and some parts of continental Europe. The product is also effective against Echinococcus multilocularis which is endemic in some parts of continental Europe and prophylactic treatment is required in all pets entering the UK under the PETS scheme or under quarantine conditions.
