Germoloids HC Spray relieves the symptoms of external haemorrhoids (piles) which include pain, itching and irritation immediately around the anus
Piles (also known as haemorrhoids) are swollen or enlarged blood vessels, which can cause varying degrees of discomfort, itching and irritation, particularly after a bowel movement. They may be either internal (inside the anus) or external (outside the anus).
Germoloids HC Spray contains Hydrocortisone and Lidocaine hydrochloride:
Hydrocortisone is one of a group of substances called steroids (which should not be confused with "anabolic steroid" tablets or injections misused by some athletes), and occurs naturally in the body. Topical steroids have been shown to reduce the itching, redness and inflammation of certain skin problems.
Lidocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic and is included in Germoloids HC Spray to relieve pain.

It is very important to obtain medical advice if you have persistent pain or bleeding from the anus, particularly if there has been a change in your bowel habit, if your stomach is swollen or bloated, you hove abdominal pain or if you are losing weight.
Do not delay in consulting a doctor if you have these symptoms, as you may require prompt treatment.
Do not use if you are already using another product containing a steroid (e.g. prednisolone, beclometasone, betamethasone,z dexamethasone), unless your doctor has said that you can use both products together. If you are not sure check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Keep the spray away from your eyes, nose and mouth.
In exceptional circumstances, if steroids such as hydrocortisone are used excessively, thinning of the skin may occur. The symptoms are normally reversible when treatment is stopped.
One of Germoloids HC Spray's active ingredients, hydrocortisone, occurs naturally as part of the normal function of the body. Theoretically, if Germoloids HC Spray is used excessively for long periods, it could suppress this natural process, although no such problem has ever been reported.
It is possible to develop an allergy to either lidocaine or hydrocortisone, in which case the use of Germoloids HC Spray will make the skin even more sore and itchy. If this happens, the spray should no longer be used.
