WHAT IS CERUMOL AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR ?

CERUMOL EAR DROPS will help the removal of ear wax from the ears. When deafness or pain in the ear is caused by blockage with wax, the use of the ear drops may avoid the need for syringing or make syringing easier.

IS IT SAFE FOR YOU TO USE CERUMOL?

Do not use the drops: if the ear drum is perforated

or: if the ear canal is sore or inflamed

Absorption of any of the constituents is very limited. There is no evidence that any

harm would arise. If you are concerned about the effect this medicine may have on your unborn or breast feeding child, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.

ALLERGIC REACTIONS

Allergy to Cerumol or oil of turpentine is extremely rare. If you are concerned about having an allergic reaction, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

IF ACCIDENTALLY TAKEN BY MOUTH

The chlorobutanol in the whole bottle might cause a child to be very sleepy.

Consult your doctor immediately if this happens.

drops are only to be used in the ear canal! Note that the drops may produce a tingling feeling in the ear.

KEEP OUT OF THE SIGHT AND REACH OF CHILDREN.

Do not use for more than three days without consulting your doctor.

HOW TO USE THE DROPS Wash your hands. Prepare a small pad of cotton wool, the size of your thumb nail. Lie or sit down, then tilt the head to bring the ear uppermost. Use the dropper to put five drops into the ear canal. Do not push the dropper into the ear. Moisten the small pad of cotton wool with Cerumol or smear with petroleum jelly. Place the cotton wool pad over the hole in the ear (this helps to keep the liquid in the ear canal). Do not push the cotton wool too far into the ear canal. Remove the pad after one hour or the next morning. Do this all again twice a day for three days. HOW LONG SHOULD YOU USE THE EAR DROPS? Do not use for more than three days without consulting your doctor. HAVE THE DROPS WORKED? By the fourth day the loosened wax should have come out on its own. If not, and a plug of wax is still in the ear then see your doctor; if syringing needs to be done, the drops will have made it easier. WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN WHEN YOU USE THE EAR DROPS? When the drops are first put in your ear it is normal to feel a warm tingling sensation. Adding the drops to the wax may, for a short while, increase deafness. If you are concerned about either of these symptoms, consult your doctor. STORING THE BOTTLE Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use if the expiry date has been passed. Do not use for more than 6 months after opening. Throw away the bottle in the household rubbish.

Other ingredients are: oil of turpentine, 3-methoxybutyl acetate (butoxyl), paradichlorobenzene, and orthodichlorobenzene. The bottle contains 11ml of the oily liquid and is supplied with a dropper.
