This medicine contains the active ingredient dibrompropamidine Isethionate (previously spelt dibromopropamidine in the UK), which is is an antibacterial agent. It is active against pathogenic (disease-causing) streptococci and staphylococci bacteria, including penicillin-resistant strains. It also has some activity against gram-negative bacilli. Its antibacterial action is not inhibited by pus, blood or para-aminobenzoic acid. In addition it has useful activity against certain species of pathogenic fungi.
What is it used for?
First aid dressing for minor burns, scalds, abrasions and other open injuries.
Inflammation and infection of the outer part of the ear canal (otitis externa)
Nappy rash
Superficial bacterial infections
Superficial fungal infections including scalp ringworm.
Treatment of pyodermas (pus-producing skin disorders) such as impetigo and barber's rash (sycosis barbae).
