BENYLIN® Dry Coughs works by suppressing the coughing mechanism that causes a dry cough. Its non-drowsy formula helps you to get on with your day.
The active ingredient dextromethorphan acts as a suppressant on your urge to cough.
A dry cough is also known as a non-productive cough because it does not produce any phlegm.
Dry coughs are caused by an inflammation of the upper airways caused by dust, foreign bodies or an infection.

Benylin Dry Coughs Non-Drowsy contains codeine and is suitable for adults and children 6 years plus, to help relieve dry, irritating, and persistent coughs

Benylin Dry Coughs (Non-Drowsy) Directions:
Adults and children 6 years and over:
Children 6 -12 years: take one 5ml spoonful four times a day
Adults and children over 12 years: take two 5 ml spoonfuls four times a day
Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours
Do not take more than the stated dose shown below
Do not give to children under 6 years
If you forget to take the medicine take the next dose when needed, do not take a double dose
If symptoms persist talk to your doctor or pharmacist
If anyone takes too much contact a doctor or your nearest Accident and emergency Department (Casualty) taking the medicine, the leaflet and pack with you

Each 5ml of Benylin Dry Coughs Non-Drowsy contains active ingredients:
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5mg
Other ingredients are: Sorbitol solution, glycerol, sucrose, liquid glucose, citric acid monohydrate, sodium benzoate (E211), caramel, saccharin sodium, imitation peach flavour, levementhol, ethanol, carbomer and purified water
Do not use Benylin Dry Coughs Non-Drowsy:
If you have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients
If you suffer from lung disease
If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, drugs for depression known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
If any of these apply to you, get advice from a doctor or pharmacist without using Benylin Dry Coughs (Non-Drowsy).
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
If you are suffering from liver or kidney problems
If you have a persistent cough such as occurs with asthma or produces a lot of mucus (phlegm)
If you are taking alcohol
If you have an intolerance to some sugars
If you are taking any other medicines
If you are not sure about any of the medicines you are taking, show the bottle or pack to your pharmacist.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding: Only use this medicine on the advice of your doctor.
Benylin Dry Coughs Non-Drowsy contains: 6 vol% ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 240mg per dose, equivalent to 6ml beer, 2.5ml wine per dose. This can be harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant or breast-feeding woman, children and high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
Some ingredients can cause problems: This medicine contains sucrose, sorbitol and liquid glucose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. Contains2.38g glucose per dose. Contains 1.6g sucrose. This should be taken into account with patients with diabetese mellitus.
Possible side effects: Mild effects that may occur include:
Dizziness
Nausea or vomiting
Upset stomach
